Chord progression
1. Use I, IV, V, VI- mostly
2. Use Secondary dominants (sparingly)
3. Make sure the melody notes match the chord
Melody
1. Make sure the melody notes match the chord tones or scale (Also accidentals!)
2. Make sure you write in 2, 4 (or sometimes 8) bar phrases
Bass line
1. Copy the rhythmic pattern given
2. The bass line pattern can change from section to section
3. Use only R, 3rd or 5th in the bass
4. Start the bass line to a chord on the R
5. If the chord is in inversion, use the bass note as a first note on the chord
6. Always be on the look-out for descending bass lines
